In honor of the 125th anniversary of Akron Children’s Hospital, Canneto / Spater Studios is pleased to create a series of sidewalk floral sculptures celebrating the theme,” In Our Backyard”. The commemoration of the founding of Akron Children’s Hospital stimulates our thinking about the connection between the ACH , healthy children and the environments in which they grow and thrive.
As children watch in fascination the vast variety of pollinators and birds attracted to the native plants needed for survival, they learn to appreciate our interdependence with our surroundings. They may also be inspired to be stewards of their local habitat by creating healthy environments for themselves and other living things. It is in this spirit that Canneto/ Spater Studios has created twenty-four floral sculptures depicting native species of flowers found in the greater Akron area.
the flowers are identified by their common and botanical name with descriptions of their benefits to native fauna printed on the reverse side. All the concrete bases will be embossed with flora and fauna that may be found on the garden floor. (IE the toad on the Trillium sculpture) Each of the twenty-four unique sculptures will be designed to be sensitive to its intended site placement.
